I HAVE BEEN EITHER ILL, INJURED OR BOTH SINCE OCTOBER 9TH WHEN THE BUS DRIVER SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES *** TWICE *** WITHIN 4 BLOCKS & THE WOMAN SEATED NEXT TO ME WENT FLYING ON TOP OF MY SHOULDERS, RIGHT RIB CAGE AND BACK.
I HAD ALSO GOTTEN INJURED 3 DAYS PREVIOUS WHEN THE ELECTRIC SCOOTER WE WERE MOVING OUT OF A FORD EXPEDITION STARTED TO FALL OUT OF IT & ALL 3 OF US GRABBED IT & WHEN I DID, SOMETHING IN MY LOWER BACK MADE AN AUDIBLE CRUNCHING NOISE & I WOUND UP IN BED FOR A MONTH WITH MY BACK FEELING LIKE IT WAS ON FIRE & I AM STILL HAVING BACK PAIN TODAY.
MY BED FRAME COLLAPSED & I WOUND UP SLEEPING ON THE FLOOR & DEVELOPED A SINUS INFECTION & HORRIBLE BRONCHITIS BUT WAS TOO ILL TO GO TO THE ER & I HAVE THESE LONG COUGHING SPASMS & INSOMNIA BECAUSE I WIND UP COUGHING FOR AS MUCH AS 7 HOURS.
I HAVE BEEN PARTICULARLY ILL THIS PAST WEEKEND WITH VERY LITTLE ENERGY & BECAUSE I SLEEP ON THE FLOOR I HAVE TO PUSH MYSELF UP ON MY 2 BAD KNEES & THAT HAS CAUSED PROBLEMS AS WELL.
I WILL FINALLY BE GOING TO THE ER TOMORROW & TO GET MY COVID & RSV SHOTS.
MY APOLOGIES FOR NOT BEING ON HERE SOONER.
I WILL TRY TO LOG IN HERE AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK DEPENDING ON WHAT THEY ARE ABLE TO DO FOR ME TOMORROW & MY ENERGY LEVELS.

Ep. 23: Winter With My Amazing Deer Friends! 2019
What a roller coaster winter! From a snowy and cold November, to a mild December, then into a mixed bag of weather in January, ending with the dreaded "Polar Vortex"! Temps dropped to -20F with wind chills close to -50F! It was the first time I have seen some of the deer shivering. Thank goodness, they have thick, winter coats to keep them warm. The whole gang has been coming up to visit and get a snack, including little Birdie and Elly Mae, Elly's orphaned fawns. It is so great to see them doing well! Big sister, Adrian, along with her two boys, Duke and Doc, keep watch over those two, and I see them together more and more. I am sure that all of them will be happy when the temps warm up, and the grass starts growing along with the leaves coming out on the bushes and trees.....a big food source for them. I can't wait for warm temps! :-))

For the new people here, Elly had been coming to see me for close to 4 years. I have been through 4 sets of fawns with her. Three weeks after having her second set of triplets, Ely passed away. The fawns have been surviving on their own. The neighbors and I have put our food and water for them to help them survive. With many trips down the road and back, I earned their trust to the point they started showing up in my yard for some apple pieces. Two weeks later, something spooked them, and they stopped showing up here. I take them some food when I see them out, and the tiny one has come back to visit me 3-4 times. I am trying to get all 3 fawns to make regular visits so they know they have a safe place to come and eat. I want to do this for the fawns.....and for my Elly girl.
For those concerned with the "humanizing" of these deer, I have been doing this for quite a while. What I have learned is that the deer see me as some kind of nice animal to them. They run if any person comes down the road or into my yard! it is a special relationship I have with them that took a long time to develope.
I follow the DNR guidlines closely for recreational feeding. I have contacted the DNR office, and I have it in writing.

From a cold April, to a very wet May, and ending June in a blaze of heat, my deer friends still love to stop by for a nice corn snack, or an apple. The mommas have now given birth. Elly had triplets....again! I saw Marcie with her two new twins. And Momma had a new fawn, too. I am anxiously waiting for them to bring the little ones up to meet me.
As you can see at the end of the video. I lost one of my very dear "deer friends". The triplets will let me get withing 3' of them...but they are still nervous. If I can get them up to me, I will try bottle feeding them to help them grow.

Here are some clips of my 15 regulars that visit me. The young ones will be leaving their moms soon, so I wanted to film then together. Elly, Marcie, and Mickey look like they could have new fawns at any time. Rocky, Moses, and Sampson's (Sammy) spikes are starting to grow quickly now. They have all lost their winter coats over the last month, and are very happy that there are leaves on the bushes and green grass to eat. But, they still love to stop in for a snack. :-)

Since the passing of my good friend, Elly, in June, her fawns have been on their own for over a month now. Most of the time, they stay in the trees on the other side of the road, or venture down into the neighbor's yards and woods. I am not sure how they made it this long with no momma to nurse from, and little knowledge of survival at this young age. Some of the wonderful neighbors are aware of them, and put food and water out for them each day. We check on them multiple times a day. Sometimes, they stay together.....other times they drift apart. They have not grown like they should.....yet. I am slowly trying to earn their trust, and hope to help them grow up big and strong......for Elly. ;-)

I started working with Elly over a year ago. At the time, she had a young fawn I called Fritz. They would come over for apples or corn through the winter and early spring. Fritz is now a 9 point buck. Elly had two more fawns this spring. She finally got the nerve to walk right up to me when I fed her, and let me start petting her. Her kids, Rocky and Adrian, come over every day with her now. Oh, there are others. Bella has been visiting for a year. She had two fawns last year.....Aaron, an 8 point now, and little Peyton. Peyton shows up with her friend, Jules, and is the only other deer that lets me pet her now. There is also Marcie with her little girl, and Casper.....a bigger doe with a lot of white on her. They all know my voice, and many times, will come when I call them. They have become my "wild" pets, and I have a lot of fun working with them.
