As a child when we lived on Union Street in San Francisco, I cut up 1/2 a potato, put toothpicks in it and put it in a big yellow ceramic pot and let it sit in the sun in our pantry.
All I did was give it water and sunlight.
I did not know about Miracle Gro then which is a great product.
Several months later, I got 20 very small baby potatoes out of it.
They were delicious.

When I lived in Sacramento I was growing bell peppers, cherry tomatoes and parsley in front of my apartment.

When I lived in Oakland, it was so hot in my apartment that I was growing tomatoes in pots and a huge catnip plant for the cats until one day, I left the door open when I had to go out & the cats got a  hold of it and ate all the leaves & dragged the stem with the dirt clump all over my carpet and made a huge mess.
