Conrad Mariscal, 27, of Pittsburg, is accused in a chase Sunday night, Oct. 6, 2019, through at least three Contra Costa County cities, the sheriff's office said.
CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA — A parolee is accused of leading Contra Costa County sheriff's deputies on a chase through at least three cities Sunday night before crashing into a car when he reached a fourth city, authorities said.
The chain of events began at 8:10 p.m. Oct. 6 when the parolee — later identified Conrad Mariscal, 27, of Pittsburg — drove past a sheriff's deputy at a high rate of speed on southbound Interstate Highway 680 at North Main Street, Sheriff's Spokesman Jimmy Lee said in a news release.
When the deputy tried to conduct a traffic stop, Mariscal did not yield and the pursuit began, Lee said.
Mariscal is accused of leading deputies through Pleasant Hill, Concord and Pittsburg before heading into Bay Point.
"While fleeing eastbound on the 2100 block of Willow Pass Road, the suspect struck a vehicle pulling out of a business," Lee said.
Three people in the car hit by Mariscal suffered injuries and had to taken by ambulance to a hospital for treatment, according to Lee.
As for Mariscal, he was booked into the Contra Costa County jail in Martinez on suspicion of numerous charges, including felony evading, reckless driving, possession of a controlled substance and transporting a controlled substance.
Because he was on parole, he is being held without bail, according to Lee.
The sheriff's office is continuing its investigation of Mariscal and the incident; anyone with any pertinent information is asked to contact the sheriff's Investigation Division at 925-313-2600.
